ATY vs DTY: what is the difference?

Both are textured filament yarns. DTY gets its crimp from heat and false twist, so it is stretchy and smooth; ATY gets loops from a jet of air, so it is bulky, dry to the touch and looks like spun yarn. Choose DTY for stretch and drape, ATY for a spun look with filament strength.

Win Star Industries, Surat. Updated 21 October 2026.

How is each made?

DTY: partially oriented yarn (POY) is drawn and false-twisted over a heater, then untwisted, leaving the filaments crimped.

ATY: flat filament is overfed into a jet of compressed air that throws loops into the filaments and locks them, without heat crimp.

How do they look and feel?

DTY is smooth with a soft lustre and noticeable stretch. ATY is bulky and matt with a cotton-like hand, almost no stretch, and better cover for the same weight.

Which should I use?

DTY suits sarees, dress material, linings and knits. ATY suits shirting, suiting, upholstery, curtains and workwear, where a fabric should look spun but not pill or shed.

Does Winstar make both?

We make ATY ourselves at our factory in Kim and supply DTY in many counts and lustres.
